Adulting

Things nobody ever told you as a kid about being an Adult (or did, but you didnt believe them)

  • You can have dessert whenever you feel like it. Nobody can stop you.
  • Except your body.
  • You spend an inordinate amount of time making things up as you go along.
  • no really, you go to school for X amount of years, and then spend the rest of your life winging it.
  • Like; i can do simple maths, but mostly i just eyeball it.
  • you will be surprised how far this gets you.
  • You will also be surprised to discover just how many “capable” adults are doing this too.
  • being able to drive is great, but it’s also tedious.
  • like; i wish i could just take a nap on the commute home.
  • The desire to take naps more often is stronger than you think.
  • Alcohol is great, but getting drunk sucks.
  • Being Drunk is fun. But getting there, and the aftermath is rarely worth it.
  • Having to deal with “adult” bullshit everyday is why adults are the way they are.
  • Like, who came up with all this red-tape and bureaucratic nonsense?
  • This is why we drink/eat pie at 10 o’clock at night.
  • You can totally watch R /(18) movies, but most people have done that by the time they’re 15 or 16.
  • actually, most of the time, the PG-13 movies are more fun.
  • the older you get, the more you find yourself rooting for the villain.
  •  Cartoons and comics are still totally viable entertainment options.
  • Your taste pallet does diversify.
  • You do eventually grow into your body.
  • You can (and sometimes do) stay up late.
  • you can also go to bed early, if you wish.
  • Tipping really isn’t a city in China (nor is it customary there either)
  • De Nile really is a river in Egypt, especially if you have an accent.
  • You can lead a horse to water, but it will probably get there quite happily by itself.
  • Idioms are just nonsense really.
  • Patience is one HELL of a Virtue.
  • most people are either having a rough day or are just arseholes.
  • Generally speaking, most folk are decent.
  • People are complicated.
  • sometimes the right thing to do and the hard thing to do are the same thing.
  • Actually it’s most of the time.
  • nearly all the time in fact.
  • don’t sweat the petty things
  • don’t pet the sweaty things
  • A smile and a firm handshake go a long way.
  • eye contact. oh god, so much eye contact.
  • It’s better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all.
  • it’s even better to have loved and not lost.
  • #winning
  • it’s ok to like things.
  • it’s ok to let other people like things.
  • it’s ok to follow your dreams. (it’s also cool to find out where they’re going and hook up with them later.)
  • it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
  • and what you know.
